In conjunction with the landlords, we are investigating the history of the rooms and area in which we work. We have found some exciting military connections – more to follow! The Red Arrows also popped by while we were out & treated us to a lucky glimpse of their display practice.

JD2E at Paris Airshow 2025: Advancing Integrated ISR Simulation

JD2E at Paris Airshow 2025: Advancing Integrated ISR Simulation

JD2E was proud to stand at the forefront of innovation at Paris Airshow 2025, showcasing the Deployable Mission Operator System (DMOS)—our flagship simulation and training platform purpose-built for real-world, multi-domain ISR.

Advancing Integrated ISR Simulation

Developed by operators for operators, DMOS provides scalable, modular training across air, land, and maritime environments. Its power lies in integration. At Paris, we demonstrated a full mission suite combining CarteNav’s AIMS-ISR software, Teledyne FLIR’s Star SAFIRE® sensor, and Smith Myers’ ARTEMIS handset geolocation system. This real-time synergy allowed us to recreate operational ISR scenarios with unprecedented accuracy and immediacy.

Our platform supports high-fidelity training for mission crews—from classroom instruction to mission rehearsal—reducing platform burden while increasing readiness. Already used to train hundreds of aircrew, DMOS is fast becoming a trusted asset for ISR capability generation.

This is more than simulation. It’s operational rehearsal, strategic preparedness, and technological convergence—delivered today.

At JD2E, we don’t just simulate ISR missions. We prepare crews to lead them.

Pancreatic Cancer Fundraising Certificate

Pancreatic Cancer Fundraising Certificate

We were delighted to receive this thank you from Pancreatic Cancer UK for our Easter Egg Raffle! Thanks again to all who helped.
Over the years, survival rates have improved enormously for most cancers but sadly, for pancreatic cancer, this is not the case. More than half of people diagnosed die within 3 months – this is unacceptable. Thanks to our fundraising, Pancreatic Cancer UK can continue to fund research breakthroughs – their research funding will support the development of a simple test to diagnose pancreatic cancer earlier and ensure people get life-saving treatment faster.

Every pound you have raised will help us continue our work and demand better for everyone affected by the disease.

Smith Myers ARTEMIS Airborne Mobile Phone Detection, Location and Communication System. It is now in use across the globe. This is deployed on a raft of different crewed and uncrewed aircraft.

With the install base of this new and unique sensor growing, there have been numerous system integrations. The MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) agreed between the two UK-based global companies, announced at Paris International Airshow 2023 (19-25 June) recognises the obvious synergies, explains Andrew Munro, Managing Director of Smith Myers:

These fully integrated sensor suites controlled by a single mission system require a different level of training where realistic simulation and training across multiple sensors becomes key.  “JD2E are not only a great company to work with, but they are also experts at turning an ISR aircraft and crew into an ISR capability” he continued.

In today’s world of critical ISR missions, single opportunities and new and innovative sensors such as ARTEMIS, the “Thinking Operator” is essential for successful missions” says Jonathan Bramley, JD2E Managing Director.  “Effective training of personnel ensures the correct decision making, tactical awareness and, ultimately, mission success” he added.

This new and exciting integration creates a fully realistic and immersive training experience for the sensor operator. This can be carried out at JD2E’s state-of-the art UK facility in Lincolnshire. Operators can even train alongside the pilots.  The training will include the fully integrated use of sensor arrays including ARTEMIS, EO/IR, Synthetic Aperture Radar and VIDAR.

This training and simulation environment will lead to the correct decision making, tactical awareness and, ultimately, mission success.

Smith Myers ARTEMIS suite of SAR products has been in active service saving lives around the world. With the growing global customer base including programmes in Europe, North America, South America, and the Middle East.

JD2E are world leaders in the delivery of basic, intermediate and advanced sensor operator and mission commander training. Delivering to a number of international customers including advanced ISR training to the UK’s Royal Air Force ISR aircrew.

Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award

JD2E is delighted to have received the Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award for our support towards the Armed Forces community.

Eighteen organisations in the East Midlands have received the award for 2022. To win an award, organisations must provide 10 extra paid days leave for Reservists and have supportive HR policies in place for veterans, Reserves, and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, as well as spouses and partners of those serving in the Armed Forces.

Organisations must also advocate the benefits of supporting those within the Armed Forces community by encouraging others to sign the Armed Forces Covenant and engage in the Employer Recognition Scheme.

Jon, MD of JD2E, said: “Receiving the gold ERS award is an incredible privilege and great testament to the active part all our veterans and staff play in supporting our Armed Forces.  We are incredibly proud of our Forces personnel, their families, and the essential roles they perform.”

Bruce Spencer, the Ministry of Defence’s Regional Employer Engagement Director for the East Midlands, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that so many local companies have been recognised with this Gold Award. It has been a difficult couple of years for businesses, and despite that, these organisations have gone above and beyond to ensure our Armed Forces community is supported. They should be very proud of this significant achievement.”

JD2E and 2Excel team up!

JD2E and 2Excel team up to land three-year contract to train airborne Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance Operators for the UK Ministry of Defence

  • Three-year duration with optional one-year extension to provide both live and synthetic training in a 4.5-week course, including 10 hours of airborne time
  • JD2E is an established ISR training provider to the MOD, offering ground school, classroom and aircraft instructors, simulators and training materials.
  • 2Excel Aviation will provide aircraft from its existing fleet (PA-31 Navajo/Panther type) as well as mission system and sensors (EO/IR turret, AIS, AIMS-ISR) and a pilot (instructor)

Pictured (left to right) Jonathan Bramley, Managing Director JD2E; Sqn Ldr Chris Timbrell, Directorate Flying Training, 22 Group RAF; Air Cdr Jamie Hunter, Director Flying Training, 22 Group RAF; Pat Cafferky, 2Excel Aviation Special Missions.

16 September 2021

UK-based 2Excel Aviation and JD2E have partnered to land a three-year Ministry of Defence contract that will see the pair combine their expertise to deliver vital Mission Aircrew Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance Operator training.

Jonathan Bramley, Managing Director at JD2E, said: ‘The combination of 2Excel’s operational ISR experience and Special Missions aircraft and JD2E’s training and simulation will deliver an unmatched level of ISR training to the UK MOD. The partnership provides the perfect blend of instructional and operational skills and experience to deliver multi-domain operational training and is a great result for the UK SME Action Plan.’

2Excel is an innovative aerospace services provider which provides services to Governments, the defence industry and the global oil sector while JD2E is a leading training and simulation company providing high end synthetic training and mission rehearsal equipment.

Arnie Palmer, Director of Special Missions at 2Excel Aviation, said: ‘The partnership with JD2E marks a step change in 2Excel’s access to industry leading synthetic training. The fusion of customer-led live airborne training and best-in-market simulation will create a training course not only suitable for today’s Sensor Operators but also future proofed for longer-term military ISR needs.’

The contract, which was awarded in September 2021, will see the pair deliver four courses per year, for three years with an optional one-year extension. The first course of 40-60 hours is due to begin in January 2022.

All courses will comprise up to six students and take around 4.5 weeks, to include 1.5 weeks of groundschool and synthetic training at JD2E’s facility near RAF Cranwell. That will be followed by three weeks of live flying out of 2Excel’s Doncaster-Sheffield Airport operations base, including 10 hours of airborne time per student.

The contract is the latest step in 2Excel’s 10-year legacy of delivering operational and training work for the UK Government, including the current Coastguard Search and Rescue contract.

The work produced from the contract with the MoD will boost 2Excel’s operations in the Sheffield region, bringing further high-skilled jobs to the local economy and another example of how 2Excel’s
UK operations are levelling-up the regions they’re placed in – whether at Doncaster-Sheffield Airport or through the development of their state-of-the-art engineering base in Lasham.

With 2Excel delivering the contract, benefits will not only be seen in boosts to regional economies, but also in value for money to the taxpayer. Through their previous public contracts, 2Excel has consistently displayed an ability to do difficult things well and to a high-quality, all the while maintaining value to the taxpayer through the cost of their services, and the net-benefit their services deliver to the UK economy.

Completion of RAF WSOp(ISR) Training Course

JD2E successfully delivered the six-week rearcrew sensor operator course for UK RAF Weapon Systems Operators (ISR) aircrew students destined for platforms such as MQ-9 Reaper, Shadow R1, Sentinel R1, RC-135W Rivet Joint and P-8A Poseidon.
The course consisted of six students and featured an intense blended training course consisting of classroom teaching, practical instruction and advanced synthetic phase that saw them acting as tactical controller of the ISR aircraft, responsible for keeping the aircraft safe, operating all sensors and managing the communications in demanding exercises. The exercises featured home operations and graduated to deployed operations in a hostile environment with maritime and overland missions.
Testament to their capabilities and the hard work they put in to the course, all six students passed the course and moved on to the flying phase.
